By Marcy Knopman, Staff Liaison, Build & Serve Charitable Alliance (Published in Monday Morning Quarterback October 12, 2026) AGC San Diego is stepping up to help San Diego prepare for the potential impacts of El Niño this winter. AGC San Diego President Jason Mordhorst of Hazard Construction received a letter from San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria requesting AGC’s assistance in launching a community-wide effort to prepare residents for potential flooding. The mayor is asking the construction industry and community partners to help the City purchase and distribute 100,000 pre-filled sandbags to San Diego residents who may need them to protect their homes and property from flooding. Recent NOAA reports suggest that the super El Niño developing over the Pacific Ocean has a 75% chance of exceeding the strength of previous events dating back to 1950. The AGC San Diego Board of Directors voted to support this initiative and referred the request to the Build & Serve Charitable Alliance, AGC San Diego’s service-oriented committee, to help lead AGC’s involvement in this important community effort.
