Published in Monday Morning Quarterback - March 25, 2024 Thomas L. Brown of Sierra Pacific West, Inc., is no stranger to San Diego or its construction industry. Brown was installed on March 22 at the AGC National Convention, last week, as the 2024 AGC President of the National Board of Directors of AGC of America. Brown will preside over the governing body of the association, defining policy that governs the conduct and affairs of the association, including oversight over its officers, occupational division chairs and vice chairs, specialty contractors council chair, service and supply council chair, executive leadership council, and nine other selected board members. At a reception hosted by the San Diego Chapter Thursday, multiple governing officials made proclamations and provided Brown with local, county, and state honors at his reception. This reception was well-attended with over 350 people from the chapter and the industry. Brown, a past president of AGC San Diego Chapter (2006), has been in the construction industry for 52 years. His company, Sierra Pacific West, Inc., is a general engineering contractor based out of San Diego (Vista, CA), and has completed a wide variety of projects, ranging from commercial, industrial, roadways, and schools, to military, memorials, community parks, and hospitality facilities. Brown’s company has won the AGC of America General Engineering Contractor of the Year award three times, with 15-plus accolades across industry awards programs. Brown has been known nationally for his participation for some time now, contributing as the 2023 Senior Vice President on the National Board of Directors of AGC of America, serving on the National Political Action Committee, and chairing both the Board for the San Diego Apprenticeship and Training Trust and the AGC Charities. He is a member of the Consulting Constructors Council of America (CCC) and has been a past chair for AGC of America of the Highway Division, Open Shop Committee, and Work Zone Safety Committee. Brown is a veteran of foreign wars, having served in the U.S. Army Intel Group, 79th Combat Engineers, and with attachment to the 10th SFG in Europe. Brown is an honorary San Diego County Deputy Sheriff, and a member of the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE), the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), the Building Industry Association (BIA), The Lincoln Club of San Diego, Women in Construction Board of Directors, and Trustee Vista School District (Vista Tech). Brown's focus on service continues to this day, with contributions and service in high-level positions for the San Diego Family Justice Center Foundation to combat domestic violence, and also with Camp Hope. This organization provides refuge for children who are victims of domestic abuse. He was previously involved with the San Diego International Sports Council and the North County Trade Tech High School. He received the AGC SIR (Skill, Integrity, Responsibility) Award in 2011, and was recognized as a 'Good Scout of the Year' by the San Diego Imperial Council Boy Scouts of America organization in 2016 as part of their Lunch-O-Ree event.
