17th Annual Boy Scouts Construction and Building Industry LUNCH-O-REE, Thursday, May 16, 2024 The San Diego Imperial Council Boy Scouts of America will honor Mike Furby, President of Marathon Construction Corporation and Lakeside Land Company, as the 2024 "Good Scout of the Year" at their 17th Annual Construction and Building Industry Lunch-O-Ree. Mike Furby is a worthy honoree, having been a Boy Scout for seven years and now serving as a board member on the Boy Scouts of America San Diego-Imperial Council Board of Directors. Always appreciative of the noble core values of the scouts, Furby is proud to be involved with an organization that continues to serve the community. He passed those values on to his son, Blake, by involving him in Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts. Blake was in Troop 506, a high adventure troop from Bird Rock led by Jacques Naviaux, a Scoutmaster, Colonel in the Marine Corps and Sr. Delta Airlines Pilot. Blake achieved Eagle Scout after eight years in scouting. He will be part of the SDSU’s first graduating class for the construction management program, and recently presented for SDSU in the ASC Region 6 & 7 Student Competition in Reno, NV. His success in this program has landed him a job at McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., in Los Angeles. Mike and his son’s story are just two success stories of many that are formed from the character, independence, leadership, and confidence that scouting brings. This event continues to raise money for Boy Scouts of America to build facilities. The luncheon honoring Furby starts with a reception at 11:30 AM on May 16 at Paradise Point Resort. The program begins at noon, and features keynote speaker, Keni Thomas. Thomas served as a United States Army Range deployed in Operation Restore Hope in Somalia and the Battle of Mogadishu. He was most notably a survivor in what would be memorialized in the book and film, Black Hawk Down. He was recognized by the President of the United States and Congress for his service and was awarded the American Patriot Award for his dedicated work on behalf of veterans and their families. He is now a country music singer-songwriter. In the past year alone, the Boy Scouts of America have served 6,493 youth, 245 young men and women who earned the rank of Eagle Scout, worked 40,940 community service hours, and earned 10,682 merit badges for core subject learning. These achievements wouldn't be possible without the generous financial donors and event sponsors for events just like this one. Sponsorships are still available for those with interest in supporting the Boy Scouts of America, ranging from $250-$20,000. Individual tickets are available for $250. These and other advertising opportunities are open to attendees of the event as well as donors who can't make the event.
